Farmers’ Market

Farmers’ Market
Again, this year, the City will make available a portion of its west parking lot behind the Main Street businesses for any organizer wishing to offer a farmers’ market on the weekends. The City welcomes these types of events since they are consistent with the history and culture of the area. It believes that the sale of farm fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers, and other farm made or produced products promote health and well-being while helping farmers grow their businesses and demonstrate the value that farms provide to the local economy and families.
Both organizers and vendors need to obtain a permit from the City and pay a fee that covers the cost of the permitting process and inspections. Organizers should remember that they will need to obtain and provide proof of liability insurance for these events that indicate the date(s), location, type of event (i.e., hosting a farmers’ market) and that indicates that the City of Scottville is a co-insured party. More information about fees, insurance, stipulations, and other requirements can be obtained by contacting City Administration or by speaking with a staff member at City Hall. Special permitting is available for registered non-profit organizations (i.e., 501(c)3, 501(c)4, etc.).
